WHMS Junior Betas Attend BetaCon 2018

Thirty-four Wilson Hall Middle School Junior Betas along with three sponsors and several chaperones attended the Alabama Junior Beta Convention in Birmingham on March 21 through March 23. WHMS showed up well in all of their competitions with two members bringing home awards.

Eighth grader Cynthia Bradley brought home first place in the state for the speech competition for the second year in a row. This is the third consecutive year that WHMS has placed first in that competition. Breanna Aucoin danced in the Special Talent contest. Her talent was recognized with a special award, an invitation to be a part of the opening ceremonies at the National Junior Beta Competition in Savannah, Georgia, in June.

Other competitors include the following: Essay, John Clayton Pettis; Poetry, D'Asia Davis; Language Arts, Da'Kendria Jenkins; Math, Alexus Hopper; Science, Reagan Moore; Social Studies, Jacob Knight; Black and White Photography, Khristain Love; Color Photography, Shadiamond Pritchett; Painting, Angel Smith; Sketching, Harmony Welch; Wreath, Claudia Allday; Recyclable Art, Dalton Boykin; Handmade Jewelry, D'Asia Davis; T-shirt, John Clayton Pettis and Tabatha Robinson; Book Battle, Bethany Peters, Ariell Campbell, Jon Overton, and Angel Smith; Tower of Power, Claudia Allday, Breanna Aucoin, MacKenzie Matthews, Avery Newton, and Alex Steadham; and Advertising Design, Faith Pernell, Shadiamond Pritchett, Claudia Allday, and Josie Anderson.

A large group of the WHMS delegates participated in the Songfest Competition. The group changed the words to the theme song of the television sitcom Friends. The words had to fit the theme of the convention which was Beta on My Mind.

Other WHMS Junior Betas who attended convention were Sequeshia Bass, Javonte Bradley, Ji'Niayah Carstarphen, Haylyn Luker, Ben Shears, Marleshia Berry, Janiya Boykin, Mikaya King, Alaysia Richardson, Reed Wilson, and Pace Young.

Chaperones included Shirley Bradley, Paula Anderson, Kelly Boykin, Stephanie Boykin, Samantha Jones, and Tracey Young.

Ellen Pettis is the sponsor of the club assisted by co-sponsors Cheryl Clarke, Petra Autry, Beverly Bush, and Annell Gordon.

The WHMS Junior Beta Club needs all the help that they can receive in order to help defray expenses for Breanna and Cynthia's trip to the national convention in Savannah, Georgia, in June.
