The Wilson Hall Middle School Scholar's Bowl Team has had a busy 2018. On January 27, the team travelled to Alma Bryant High School to compete in district competition for the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association. Team captain John Clayton Pettis was the second overall highest scorer. WHMS barely missed qualifying for state play-offs.

On March 8, A and B teams competed in Coastal Alabama Community College's tournament. Again Pettis won second overall highest scorer. The A Team beat Clarke Preparatory School and Monroe Academy and missed winning first place in the tourney with a ten-point loss to West Lauderdale.

On March 9, WHMS travelled to the University of Mobile to play in the Bay Area Scholastic Challenge Super Tournament for which the team had qualified in two previous tournaments at Brewton Middle School. Although WHMS came away with a respectable record of wins and losses, they barely missed making the championship rounds. However, Pettis did take a medal for third overall high scorer.

The team consisting of John Clayton Pettis, Avery Newton, Cynthia Bradley, Mikaya King, Janiya Boykin, Reed Wilson, Tamyus Pugh, Derek Byrd, and Molly Pettis is coached by Ellen Pettis assisted by Annell Gordon.
